Talk 1: Experience and Methods for Training Language and Embedding Models ( awoo Japan )

Description

Kalvar will be sharing his experience and methods for training language and embedding models; implementing self-attention mechanisms into models; understanding bidirectional recurrent neural networks. And in data and algorithm engineering, how to optimize and choose algorithms, as well as distributing computing resources with TensorFlow.

Speaker

Kalvar Lin is the founder and Chief A.I. Scientist of awoo Japan AI lab & JiaBao AI lab, which focus on researching and developing commercial applications of A.I. as well as incubating talent for Natural Language Processing and Computer Vision.

As a champion for A.I. basic research in Taiwan, Kalvar’s technical expertise lie at the intersections of cybersecurity protection, artificial intelligence, software and hardware integration (total solution of wearable devices), adaptive self-walking robotics, e-commerce and mobile applications development.

Kalvar has made significant contributions to more than 60 open source projects, taught more than 2000 engineers and entrepreneurs to successfully monetize their A.I. projects, and held lectures for many universities, enterprises and research institutions—including the American Institute in Taiwan, American Innovation Center, Academia Sinica, National Chengchi University, and National Chiayi University.

Talk 2: 感情道場 Kanjo Dojo — Introduction to Emotion Analysis

Description

Introduction to Emotion Analysis, we will briefly introduce how emotion analysis is conducted in a machine learning approach, and its difference from other tasks. We will also present some challenges with Japanese, such as subjectivity of emotion perceptions, importance of contexts, and locality on cyber-slangs, and some of the latest trends in emotion analysis.

Unlike e-commerce platform where everything is just one click away, C2C Marketplace is battlefield with all kinds of emotions. A user can bargain the price, check progress of shipment, or even make friends with sellers on the platform. This is where emotion analysis comes in to offer a better emotional user experience.

Speaker

Toby Liu is a NLP researcher. He is currently a machine learning engineer at Mercari, Japan. He was an active member in OSS communities of MozTW, COSCUP and g0v, as well as Data4SocialGood for fire hazard prediction. One of his latest researches in emotion analysis was published on EMNLP 2018.
