About Design Research Tokyo

DRT is a community of design research practitioners in Tokyo, established in late 2018. We create face-to-face opportunities to learn from each other, curating events in different formats to feed our respective work in the broad context of research.

About this event

We know there are more than a few fans of 'The Field Study Handbook' in the DRT community, and we're excited to host its author, Jan Chipchase, for Episode 4.

If this is your first DRT event - welcome! Learn more about us here.

Designing For International Consumers

In this talk Jan will reflect what it takes to operate globally as a small studio, running projects in trend-forward locales such as New York, Riyadh and Milan, and rapidly developing markets such China, India and Indonesia, and outliers such as Afghanistan.

The talk will include:

  • The fundamentals to running international research projects.
  • Understanding consumers and cultures whose lives are very different from your own
  • The common pitfalls, including team biases, cross-cultural team dynamics, and hiring local agencies to run research on your behalf
  • What it takes to challenge minds and flutter hearts.

Agenda

  • 18:30 Doors open
  • 19:00 Welcome
  • 19:10 Talk / Q&A
  • 20:30 Networking
  • 21:00 Doors close
