Sharding Research JP #1

概要

Sharding is a concept borrowed from database design, in which a single database schema is split into multiple instances. In the context of blockchains, sharding is the concept that a single blockchain can be split into multiple blockchains. The main benefit to this approach is the potential for the total transaction throughput to increase proportionally with the number of blockchains. If a single blockchain can only handle 10 transactions per second, a shard system with 1000 chains can handle 10,000 transaction per second.

The first meeting will discuss Ethereum’s approach to sharding, but topics will be discussed in a way that’s applicable to other sharding projects such as Zilliqa and Dfinity. The problem space is large, and is continuing to incorporate existing and novel findings in cryptography, game theory, and distributed consensus. Join us for the first event!

Shardingとは元々データベース用語であり、データを複数のノードに分散するアプローチを指します。ブロックチェーンの場合、Shardingとは一つのブロックチェーンを複数のブロックチェーンに分散するコンセプトを指します。

Sharding Research JP #1ではEthereumのシャーディング構造がメインになりますが、ZilliqaやDfinityの構造にも適用するように話します。研究は日夜進み、暗号、ゲーム理論、分散コンピューティングなど様々な分野を含んでいます。ぜひ参加してください！
